Sarah Nolen / Judy Saves the Day!

Sarah Nolen / Judy Saves the Day!

Saturday, May 30th, 2020 at 3 pm EST

Sarah Nolan from the Puppet Showplace Theater

After being pushed around for over 200 years, the famous hand puppet heroine Judy has had enough! Cheer her on as she goes on a quest for respect, justice, and a well-deserved nap. This modern interpretation of the traditional "Punch and Judy" show is a hilarious, timely, hand-crafted farce that the whole family will enjoy. Recommended for ages 4 and up

Sarah Nolen became Puppet Showplace Theater's third-ever resident artist in September 2017. Her shadow adaptation of the Baba Yaga story, Lisa the Wise, debuted in October 2017 as part of the Fall Fairy Tale Festival. Since coming on board at Puppet Showplace, Sarah has debuted two new shows: The Fairy Tailor in February 2018, and Judy Saves the Day in January 2019. Sarah stays busy teaching camps and classes for all ages pre-k to adult, consulting on puppetry projects for theaters and cultural institutions, and running the theater's "Hatchery" program for new works development. Known for her versatile, witty, and innovative work across multiple puppetry styles, Sarah most recently worked as a builder for Acheson Walsh Studios and performer for the immersive show Pip's Island in New York City. She has also toured internationally as part of the ensemble for Reverse Cascade. Originally from Austin, Texas, Sarah earned her BFA in film from Southern Methodist University in 2009, and MFA in Puppet Arts from the University of Connecticut in 2016. Sarah has performed as a puppeteer for the Boston Pops Orchestra, EnvisionFEST Hartford, and The Out of Bounds Festival in Austin. In addition to her work in puppetry, Sarah is an experienced filmmaker and comedy improv performer.

Modern Times Theater / The Perils of Mr Punch

Modern Times Theater / The Perils of Mr Punch

Saturday, May 23rd, 2020 at 3 pm EST

This updated classic follows the troubles and travails of puppetry’s favorite loudmouth, Mr. Punch. Nothing ever goes right– his dog looks suspiciously like a skunk, his baby doesn’t behave, and crocodiles appear around every corner. The skillfully operated hand puppets are made of garbage and up-cycled material, and are chock full of surprises and tricks, as is the elaborate stage.

This ever-evolving saga changes with the seasons, and is always fresh, with new gags, and puppets constantly joining the cast.

Sing-a-Long with Nappy’s Puppets

Saturday, May 9th, 2020 at 3 pm EST

How many of these songs do you know:

Little Bunny Foo-Foo?
Five Little Ducks?
The Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly?
Five Little Monkeys Jumpin’ on the Bed?

Join in the fun as Jim Napolitano of Nappy’s Puppet presents some of the silliest sing-a-long songs know to mankind.

People might not recognize Jim Napolitano even though he is broadcast to millions of television sets nationwide. That’s because as a puppeteer he spends most of his time out of the camera’s view. His television credits include Between the Lions on PBS, The Book of Pooh on the Disney Channel and the new cartoon Kirby, on Fox. Jim is a graduate of the University of Connecticut’s Puppet Arts Program and a native of Milford, Connecticut.

Tucker Tales / It's the Wolf!

Tucker Tales / Peter Rabbit Tales

From ages 4 years to adult.

Some days are bad; others are big, bad & particularly troublesome. On this particular day, you’re really in trouble if you happen to be a hungry wolf. And a day like the one Mr. Furr E. Wolf experiences would make a Bengal Tiger become a vegetarian. Join us as we follow Mr. Wolf through some of his most famous adventures:

Three Little Pigs - Building your dream house can really be a problem if a hungry wolf makes a house call! But will the pigs be able to prevent Mr. Wolf from dropping in to do a little “bacon”?

Br’er Rabbit & The Wolf - After attempting breakfast with the pigs, and almost becoming “cream of wolf,” someone is really hungry! So the frustrated Wolf and Br’er Fox devise a “fool-proof” plan for a rabbit stew, only to have the wily Br’er Rabbit teach the Wolf a lesson about how to fool someone.

Red Riding Hood - After visiting the pigs and Br’er Rabbit, Mr. Wolf attempts to cash-in on an “easier” target, Red Riding Hood and her basket of goodies for her grandmother. With the local woodsmen on strike, it should be easy… or will it?
