Join master puppeteer, Liz Joyce, for a wildly creative and fun week of Puppet Camp!

Goat on a Boat Puppet Theatre has been delighting families on the East End of Long Island for over 20 years. Sharing puppet shows, workshops and special events is what we do best. We believe that making art is incredibly important for children.

Our campers take the art that they make and use it to bring their very own stories to life. Using easy-to-find materials like recycled paper and cardboard, campers build their own worlds that are brimming with stories and play. Each day, we explore different types of puppets. We learn about manipulating our creations, giving them a voice and telling their story. Campers build relationships with one another as they hone their problem-solving skills to create their very own puppets and shows. We play games, blow giant bubbles, have “runaround time”, we even make music together. It’s all a part of the fun resulting in a joyful week of learning, play and creativity.

Goat on a Boat Summer Camps take place outside. Our community partners let us use their facilities when needed. Most of our camp happens around our Puppet Truck. It is solar powered, shaded/covered, has running water and is full of puppet shows, workshop materials and surprises.

Liz Joyce has been certified as an art teacher and worked with young children throughout her 30 year career. She is a musician, a storyteller and puppeteer. Liz believes that play is a powerful tool in the development of young children and that puppets bring out a unique kind of lasting creativity that they will remember for a lifetime.

Join master puppeteer, Liz Joyce, for a week of story making, puppet building, performances and play. Campers will create a series of their own puppet shows throughout the week. Exploring various puppetry styles, children will work together with Liz to construct stories to bring them to life with their own cast of hand-made characters. The last day of camp will include a sharing of our puppet shows along with a 30 minute Goat on a Boat puppet show open to the public.

Campers should bring their own snack and water bottle daily. This is an outdoor camp, conducted in the shade. In the event of rain, we will use the BH Museum's indoor space. Children should arrive with sun protection and bug spray. Please dress ready to make a mess.

We look forward to a wildly creative and fun week with your child.

Puppet Homecoming-Regional Festival Ithaca, NY

  • Goat on a Boat Puppet Theatre (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Puppet Homecoming will take place in downtown Ithaca NY - highlighting some of the best puppetry in the region as well as showcasing local puppet talent. We will invite workshop teachers from the region to teach workshops in the morning, and in the afternoons, we will have public shows with family friendly themes. There will be repeat performances to accommodate all festival goers and the local community. In the evenings, we will have adult puppet shows, a Slam, and a Potpourri event. The festival will begin Friday, November 1st and close on Sunday, November 3rd, in the afternoon. We will also plan to have a Professional Day from Puppetry in Education and Therapy on Monday, November 4th. In addition, there will be a giant puppet parade led by Cheryl Capezzuti, a pop-up puppet market for our puppetry store, and a busking event throughout the commons. Our artistic director, Lily Gershon, envisions a celebration which brings together the local puppet community that they've been building in the Ithaca area and all the regional artists coming together. The goal is to foster the friendships and support systems that make the puppet community so unique and lovely, while seeing some fun, joyful, and dynamic shows.
